DMEK TRIPLE SCROLL

Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is increasingly becoming the preferred treatment for corneal endothelial failure. However, the technical difficulty associated with DMEK surgery remains a significant barrier to more widespread adoption of the technique. Our investigation demonstrates that paired peripheral incisions can induce a wider, more favorable triple scroll conformation in younger DMEK grafts. Adding incisions to DMEK grafts can decrease the time for transplantation and may improve patient outcomes. Routine use of paired peripheral incisions may also help expand the eligible donor pool for DMEK to younger donors.

To evaluate the ex vivo safety and efficacy of using paired peripheral incisions to achieve a triple scroll conformation that facilitates unscrolling in Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK).
